W. Scott Bowen, M.D. | Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon

 

​Specialties: Minimally Invasive Orthopedic Surgery, Reconstructive Surgery and Sports Medicine

 

A native of Little Rock, Dr. Bowen graduated from Vanderbilt University with a B.S. in chemistry in 1977. Upon graduating with a degree in medicine from UAMS in 1981, he completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 1986. Dr. Bowen specializes in total shoulder, hip and knee replacement, as well as arthroscopic reconstruction of the knee and shoulder. His certifications include the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Bowen is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Orthopedics Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American College of Sports Medicine, and the Arkansas Medical Society. He has been published in the Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery. As Chairman of the Board of Managers for Arkansas Surgical Hospital, Dr. Bowen is actively involved in decisions regarding overall patient care and growth of the facility. His participation in numerous clinical trials studied how various pain medicines and blood thinning drugs affect patients recovering from orthopedic surgery. His private practice has spanned more than 28 years. Dr Bowen has been voted as one of the best doctors in orthopedic surgery in the Arkansas Times Best Doctors multiple times.  He has three grown children and enjoys biking, hiking, tennis, hunting, scuba diving and running.

William F. Hefley, Jr., M.D. | Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon

 

Specialties: Knee Surgery, Hip Surgery, Shoulder Surgery, Sports Medicine, Stem Cells/PRP

 

Dr. Bill Hefley specializes in minimally invasive surgery of the knee, hip and shoulder.  His interests include arthroscopic surgeries, total joint replacements and sports medicine.

Dr. Hefley’s lifelong love of sports as an athlete and marathon runner, youth sports coach and father of high school and college athletes has fueled his passion for treating patients who play sports and returning them to the game they love.  In addition he enjoys serving other patients who simply want to be able to lead active lifestyles free of pain.

As a native of Little Rock, Dr. Hefley earned an undergraduate degree from Harding University and his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at UAMS and received additional training in sports medicine and joint replacement surgery from St. Mary's Hospital System and the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital in London, England. Dr. Hefley has practiced in Little Rock since 1990.  

Dr. Hefley has been chosen as one of the “Best Doctors in Arkansas” by AY magazine and has been voted “Best Orthopedic Surgeon” by the Arkansas Democrat Gazette.  Dr. Hefley has consulted with leading orthopedic implant manufacturers to design new hip and knee implants. He has traveled to lecture and teach courses on joint replacement to surgeons from around the United States and abroad. He has served as team physician and sports medicine director for schools and organizations at the high school, collegiate, and professional level.

He is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and has been published in The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery. He is a member of the following organizations:

Dr. Hefley and his wife Lisa have two daughters and two sons.  In his free time he enjoys running, biking, and most of all spending time with his family which often includes cheering for his kids at sports events and performances.

David M. Rhodes, M.D.

 

Specialties: Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery


Dr. Rhodes was born in Calgary, Canada. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1987 with a B.S. in Zoology and received his medical degree from the University of Utah in 1991. Following graduation, Dr. Rhodes completed a surgical internship and an orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles in 1996. After his residency, Dr. Rhodes completed a hand fellowship at the Campbell Clinic in Memphis, TN. Dr. Rhodes joined Bowen Hefley Orthopedics in 1999, specializing in hand and upper extremity surgery. He is a member of many professional organizations, including the Pulaski County Medical Society, and is a candidate member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. In addition to being a skilled surgeon, Dr. Rhodes also speaks fluent Spanish.

Jason G. Stewart, M.D. | Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon

 

Dr. Stewart hails from Hope, AR. Dr Stewart began his collegiate studies at Hendrix College in1988. Graduating with a B.S. in Biology in 1992, he went on to UAMS, receiving his medical degree in 1996. Dr. Stewart continued with his Transitional Fellowship, his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency and Fellowship in Foot and Ankle Surgery at UAMS. Dr. Stewart is a member of the Board of Managers at the Arkansas Surgical Hospital and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons. He has also been published several times in Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research. Dr. Stewart’s practice interests include Adult Reconstructive Surgery, Arthroscopy, Sports Medicine and Workers Compensation.

Larry L. Nguyen, M.D. | Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon

 

Specialties: Foot and Ankle Reconstruction and General Orthopedics

Born in Saigon, Vietnam, Dr. Nguyen completed his Undergraduate work at Rice University in Houston, TX. He received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. His postgraduate work brought him to UAMS in 1997, where he completed his Transitional Internship and his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program. Dr. Nguyen returned to Texas to complete a fellowship in Foot & Ankle Reconstruction. Dr. Nguyen is licensed by the Arkansas State Medical Board and is Board Certified by The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and has been practicing in Little Rock since 2002. Dr. Nguyen is a member of Arkansas Medical Society, Pulaski County Medical Association, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, fellow member, and an active member of Mid-America Orthopaedic Association.

Samuel A. Moore, D.O. | Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon

 

​Specialties: Orthopedics, Sports Medicine, and Joint Reconstruction


Dr. Samuel Moore specializes in treating arthritis and sports injuries, including surgery of the hip, knee, and shoulder. Training at Bone & Joint Hospital in Oklahoma City also gave him special skills in total hip and knee replacement surgery. Dr. Moore had extra training in sports medicine surgery including hip arthroscopy as well as arthroscopic ACL reconstruction and rotator cuff repair. As an osteopathic physician (D.O.), he is focused on treating the patient as a whole person. Dr. Moore has special interest in regenerative medicine such as stem cell and platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy. He is a native of Fort Smith who graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, then went on to receive his medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. After completing an internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, Dr. Moore returned to Arkansas to begin his practice treating patients at Arkansas Surgical Hospital and Baptist Medical Center North Little Rock and is certified to use the Makoplasty robotic assisted total joint replacement system.

Jesse B. Burks, D.P.M. | Board Certified Podiatric Surgeon

 

​Specialties: Treatment of the Foot and Ankle

 

Dr. Burks is a native of Benton, Arkansas and graduated from the University of DesMoines in 1994, obtaining a B.S. degree in Medical Science. He followed with his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine in 1996, and then completed a Podiatric Surgical Residency at Winona Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1999. He immediately followed with a fellowship in Graz, Austria. Dr. Burks is certified by the American Board of Lower Extremity Surgery and is a member of many professional organizations including the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. Dr. Burks joined Bowen Hefley Orthopedics in 2008 and specializes in treatment of the foot and ankle.

Joe W. Crow, M.D. | Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon

 

A native of Little Rock, Dr. Crow is a graduate of Little Rock Central High and UALR (formerly Little Rock University). He completed his medical school training at UAMS in Little Rock, and completed his residency in Orthopedics at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, MN. With extensive experience in the United States Air Force (USAF), Dr. Crow served as a flight surgeon at Brooks AFB in San Antonio. Following his duties in Texas, he was appointed as the Commander of the USAF Hospital at Craig AFB in Alabama from 1971-1972. In other services to his country, Dr. Crow was the physician for the U.S. Embassy in Moscow from 1969-1971, working for the U.S. Department of State. He went on to become the Chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Scott Air Force Base from 1977 to 1980, and was a lecturer in Orthopedic Surgery at the St. Louis University School of medicine in Missouri. From 1998 to 2002, Dr. Crow served as a lecturer in Orthopedic Surgery for the Volgograd Medical Academy in Volgograd, Russia. Dr. Crow began his private practice in the greater Little Rock area in 1980 and is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor for Orthopedic Surgery at UAMS and served as the Chief of the Orthopedic Surgery Section at Baptist Memorial Medical Center from 2002 to 2003.
